John Smith spoke at Church on Sunday, He's an old man now, battered by life, but he still spoke with passion, positivity and excitement, he was really encouraging and inspiring. He spoke of many things as is his style but two stood out for me:
- The importance for the Church (ie christians) of having a real connection with Jesus, he challenged people about reading and re-reading, being immersed in the Gospels. This is something I've been reading and thinking about recently, and while I can say that I've read the Gospels a number of times in recent years I know I've got a long way to go in really immersing myself in what we know of Jesus life.
- The challenge of breaking down the implicit 'Temple Theology' in our church institutions.
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Cheers,
Nigel

Thanks Nige,
I was there that day too and it was a good time although I was wondering how we do all this challenging the 'temple theology' in practice. Kind of always amazes me that we get speakers who bring very radical messages to the kind of church we are and then we just say that was a 'challenging message' and then come back for the one next week. At times it’s like we don't get what is actually being said or at least we don't have any intention of actually 'doing it'!
What would a challenge to the 'temple theology' look like for a regular trad church? Like to hear others ideas...for me it would start with a way to reflect and respond to what we hear each week...and then some concrete response before we move onto the 'next thing'. We have a consumer culture with all this that we default too. Does the teaching that happens weekly in churches across the world really make much of a difference?
Enough for now - don’t want to over do the blogging!

HI Nigel
I was looking at stuff today and came accross a blog by jarrod McKenna on the Gods Politics site he wrote it on the first of May. It talks about the Grace that we know god can work in difficult situations is sometimes very hard to see him wanting to use in big churches too. thought you might be interested in reading it. How do i show you how to find it? I think i need a crash course in how to do some of this internet stuff. Im getting rapidly out of touch
